Getting Things Done, Part I: Organizing Your Workspace

Thank you, David Allen. I mean that. Thank you.

Life stresses people out sometimes, and I'll tell you why (well, one reason anyway)--because stuff comes at you so fast and even randomly sometimes that you feel like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix trying to dodge bullets. Except, of course, it's in real-time not slow motion.

DrupalCon Sessions

Now that the final schedule's been released, I wanted to revisit the schedule and try to put some hype behind a few of the sessions that are going to be presented at DrupalCon in DC in a few weeks.

In addition to the one I already know I'm going to (thanks for having it twice!), there's a few that I'm most excited about.

Bement Songbook

A lot of people turn to music when they're in crisis mode, and camp people are no exception. Meg had started a Facebook note where people could post/share their favorite lyrics to camp songs.

Well then, good thing it occurred to me to save all this work when I typed it up like 7 years ago! A lot has probably changed in the years since Bement and I have parted ways because of Bishop Scruton, but these are the songs that were part of the Bement Songbook when I was there (1991-2004).

Definitely Going to This One

I saw this pop up on the Drupal News RSS feed, about the upcoming DrupalCon in DC. I will definitely be attending this one, mentioned on emmajane's site: http://emmajane.net/node/895

I fancy myself a decent public speaker -- that is, I enjoy public speaking (which I think is a rarity, and in and of itself probably makes me better than the people who tend to be nervous when speaking publicly). I owe much of that to debating in high school.

DrupalCon T-Shirt Contest

I wore my shirt from DrupalCon Boston yesterday. Other than the neck, it's a really great shirt.

For the con in DC, this is my favorite -- http://dc2009.drupalcon.org/t-shirt/login-or-register-connect

Go and vote for it, Drupalers!

Initial Thoughts - Verizon Wireless Network Extender (femtocell)

So, my femtocell (Network Extender) arrived yesterday. The FedEx lady that dropped it off said "that's awful big to be a phone!" I said, "ooh, is that from Verizon?" Turns out, I completed my order (very, very slowly by the way -- the Verizon Wireless order checkout site is sloooooooooooow at least on Ubuntu. I tried Opera and Firefox) on Friday after the 4:30pm cutoff time, so I didn't expect to receive my order until Tuesday according to their site. So, off to a good start--one day early on the shipping.

It's more fun when they creep up on you all unexpected and stuff.

This morning Rachel was still asleep, and I couldn't sleep, so I moved my venue to the couch. I put on some HGTV "On Demand" (I've been on a home renovation kick for a couple weeks), and was watching episode 102 of a show called "Don't Sweat It." The show is about doing a few small projects for a home, each of which takes a half a day or less.

Irony? The new Verizon Wireless femtocell and me.

Patrick sends me an Engadget link for this great new device (a femtocell) to extend Verizon wireless coverage inside your house.

Currently, my cell service TOTALLY blows in my house. Rarely can I have an extended conversation on my brand new cell phone (which proves awesome when my Internet goes out, and I can't have a conversation with the tech because I have Internet phone through Vonage). I thought this would be the best thing ever!

Teacher "takes" notes?

From the "makes-me-cringe" department: I'm like 4th-hand blogging about this, but it's nonetheless an important hypothetical even if it's not true. A teacher asks for students to turn in all copies of their notes from her class, so she can destroy them (to prevent future students from using them).

The discussion is posted on Ask Slashdot here: http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09%2F01%2F24%2F0519226

What will I do without MySpace?

To answer that, pretty much the same crap I've been doing for the last year. Yeah, I finally did it -- I deleted my MySpace account. I don't use it any more, and really, none of my friends do either. I feel like I'm being a little disloyal to MySpace somehow (cuz they were first on the scene?) but the truth of the matter is everyone I know is on Facebook.

Every time I sign onto just to check something or respond to a friend request or something, I get like 5 super-hot girls who wanna be my friend. No thanks. I took a page outta the book of Ramsey on this one.
